I don’t know my Regional Centre and Study Centre
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), one of the largest distance learning universities in the world, operates through a network of Regional Centres and Study Centres to serve its large number of students and programmes/ courses/ subjects.
Role of IGNOU Regional Centre
- Regional Centres primarily serve administrative purposes. Regional Centres are established by IGNOU Headquarters. Each Regional Centre is assigned a jurisdictional area or geographical area to manage students and university’s programs in that area.
- Regional Centres provide support to students regarding admissions, examination forms, assignment evaluation, practical exams, project viva voce, study material, I cards, migration certificate, and other administrative assistance. They are the first point of contact for new admissions and other official processes.
- Each Regional Centre covers a larger area and manages multiple Study Centres within that region. Rather Regional Centre allots students to different Study Centres of their jurisdictional area for further academic support.
Role of IGNOU Study Centre
- Study Centres primarily focus on academic support for students.
- These study centres provide face-to-face interaction with faculty, and counseling sessions for the courses offered. They are essential for courses that require practical or lab work, allowing students to complete these components under guidance of Academic Counsellor/ Faculty.
- Study Centres also function as examination centres where students can appear for their exams.
- Study Centres act as Local Contact Point. For most day-to-day academic and operational queries, students are likely to visit their nearest Study Centre for assistance and guidance.
Study Centres operate under the guidance and supervision of their corresponding Regional Centre. Study Centres deal with academic queries and the Regional Centres handle administrative matters.
